Summary

This article shows the results of the study of antonyms, based on the hypothesis that journalists use antonyms in the titles of their articles very often to express creativity and intention, two very important characteristics of the journalistic substyle of the publicistic style. Examples (titles) in this study were excerpted from the popular Macedonian web-site www.off.net.mk, published in the period January to December 2015. Titles are very powerful tool of this web-portal, recognized by their creativity and uniqueness. A representative number of all excerpted titles containing antonyms was analyzed. However, the focus of the study was the contextual antonymisation and the antonymy in phrasal expressions, which are commonly used in the titles of journalistic articles in Macedonian language. Some of the conclusions refer to the grammatical aspect (the antonymisation from the point of view of morphology and of syntax). The complexity of the antonymy when defined more broadly was taken in consideration during the research. This study proved that journalists like to use the contextual antonymisation and the antonymy in phrasal expressions in the titles of their articles, more or less successfully. In most of the cases, however, this is a good way to make the reader interested to continue to read the whole article.
